Rev. Mike Gordon - Our Pastor
Mike was born in Rutherfordton, NC and has a love for the western part of the state. He came to us in January, 2013 from Christ Pres in Greenville, NC where he served as an associate pastor over worship, new members and other duties. He's also served for over 10 years as a youth pastor before Greenville. He's an avid musician and plays piano, guitar and mandolin. He's a golfer too....and hacks his way through most courses! He loves hiking too. He is a 'normal guy' who loves the gospel and loves people. His favorite book is "Dangerous Calling" by Paul Tripp and his favorite movie is "Saving Private Ryan". His favorite band is "Nickel Creek" He loves being a pastor, but he really loves playing basketball with Josh his son, playing slime with Hannah his middle daughter, or taking Abby, his 14 year old out and letting her drive the car. !! Most of all, he loves taking Kristen, his wife of 20 years out on dates where they can talk and eat something yummy.
Shannon Hinson - Administrative Assistant
Shannon is our administrative assistant. She came to Grace in 2007 from a background in finance and education. If you call the church office she will be there to greet you and help as needed. She enjoys getting to work in a great Christian atmosphere.
Director of Children's Ministry
Sarah Jonas & Kaley Brown - Nursery Coordinators
Sarah Jonas has been a member of Grace Covenant since 2011. Sarah was raised in Cornelius, NC and moved to Hickory in 2007 to attend college. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2011 with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and has since been working full-time as a registered nurse at Frye Regional Medical Center on the Telemetry unit. Sarah has been married to her husband Justin for 6 years and they have a son, Thomas and a baby girl, Cecelia. In her free-time, Sarah enjoys running, traveling with family and friends, spending time outdoors, and reading. Sarah is looking forward to working with the congregation to keep our nurseries a safe, happy, and fun place to learn about Jesus!
Kaley Brown has been a member of Grace Covenant for about 7 years. She is married to her best friend, March and they are the proud parents of a precious baby girl, Addie. Marcus and Kaley both graduated from Appalachian State University, where Kaley earned a degree in elementary education. She loves working with young children while watching them grown and learn!
Josh and Missy met at Carson-Newman College, where Josh earned a BA degree in Biology and Missy earned a BS degree in Special Education. In 2005, they were married in Asheville. Missy became a special education teacher at Veritas Christian Academy in Fletcher, NC where she worked with children who had high functioning autism. Eventually, Josh also worked at Veritas teaching high school science and coaching soccer. Alina was born in 2008, and Missy decided to stay home to be a full time Mom. Josh realized he loved young adults and loved teaching, but felt pulled toward higher education and was accepted into a doctorate program at East Carolina University so the family moved to Greenville, NC. Missy worked at another school part-time until Levi was born in 2012. Josh finished his degree in May of 2013, and accepted a job back at their alma-mater, now called Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, TN. There they were involved with the RUF ministry, getting to know some of the students very well. They learned once again how much they love investing in young adults. After two years teaching sciences at CNU, they learned that Lenoir-Rhyne University was starting a PA (Physician Assistant) program. Joshua applied, interviewed and accepted the job in 2015, teaching medical sciences to the PA students. Now, Missy homeschools Levi and Alina and also directs a homeschool group called Classical Conversations near their home in the Mountain View area. They also began forming relationships with some of the middle schoolers here at Grace which re-invigorated their passion for discipling youth and young adults. They are truly excited about the opportunity to teach and invest in the lives of the youth here at Grace Covenant. They are honored and humbled that the church has entrusted their children to them and are looking forward to embarking on this new journey!
