Women’s Ministry

Women Of Grace(WOG)

Grace Covenant Women’s Ministries is formalized to provide a vehicle for all women to share in ministering in a variety of areas within the Church. All of the reaches are directed by a team of women officers whose primary function is to oversee each facet of ministry to our women. We are excited about the potential that God has given our church, especially how we, as women, can be vitally involved in meeting important needs in biblical ways

Amazing Grace 360: Whole Gospel. Whole Life. Whole World

Spotlight on Volunteering

This fall, Meredith Loss asked members of our congregation to come along side her as she volunteered at the Caldwell Pregnancy Care Center. The Center opened in November 1990 and provides services free of charge. They use the Earn While You Learn parenting curriculum and their clients earn vouchers to exchange for baby items in their Hope’s

Closet. Clients may elect to do Bible studies to earn vouchers.

Julie Underhill answered the request and joined Meredith in helping at Hope‟s Closet. Together, Julie and Meredith worked to “change seasons” as the short sleeve / summer outfits were put in storage and the long sleeve / winter outfits were unboxed and stocked.

Julie mentioned that while it felt good to help the Caldwell Pregnancy Care Center, she treasured the time she spent with Meredith strengthening their friendship.

Isn‟t that always the case? We minister to others but feel like we‟ve been ministered to ourselves. Oftentimes, we receive more than we give when we volunteer.

Books needed by College in Malawi, Africa

A small center for the training of children’s workers is in much need of good teaching and reading material by authors of the reformed faith. Please would you search your shelves for books you no longer need to send to them?

If you are interested in donating used books for those who truly need sound doctrine to go into the field and serve our Lord, please call Susan Hurrie at 828-638-5719.

We invite you to join us as we pray for and raise money for Covenant Seminary.

WIC Love Gift 2011

In the coming months, we will be fundraising for Covenant Seminary.

How Covenant Seminary equips church leaders to face today‟s challenges with gospel courage and compassion – and how they equip their congregations to do the same – matters now more than ever. Over the last several years, the Lord has enriched the curricular aspects of their ministry training by blessing them with upgraded classrooms and instructional technology; a new Founders Hall (classroom and office space) for enhanced student, faculty and staff interactions and a Worldview Classroom initiative that offers free reformed teaching around the globe.

Family Traditions Gathering

The Women of Grace invite all female members and friends of Grace Covenant to attend our first Family Traditions Christmas gathering on Wednesday, December 7th.  We’ll meeting at the Wynnshire Ridge Club House with supper being at 6:30pm.  Attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert. This will be a special night of fellowship for our women and we hope many will make plans to attend. Please see Sandy Hoffman or stop by the back table after church service to RSVP. We hope to see you there!!

On October 7, 2011, 11 ladies and youth members and friends of Grace Covenant Presbyterian PCA travelled to the Cobb Galleria Centre “Hall C” near Atlanta, GA to participate in the Amazing Grace 360 conference. This weekend exposed our delegation “to sound teaching and preaching of His eternal Word; opened their hearts in singing to Him; ministered His grace to one another along the way and provided the motivation to share the joys and substance of the conference with our congregation.” (www.amazinggrace360.com ) .

We asked participants to share their memories of this weekend.

Angie Parker

- I really enjoyed the women’s conference! I am so thankful for the faithful teaching of God’s Word by Nancy Guthrie. She taught about creation, the fall, and redemption and how they relate to me on a personal level, in that Christ is creating ongoing newness in my life (2 Cor. 4:16), that Jesus gained for me more than Adam lost (Romans 5:17), and the reminder of God’s redeeming love for me in the book of Hosea. These are things I am still pondering in the time I have been home.  I am also thankful for the opportunity to have gone, and for the time spent with women from out church.

Women of Grace – Are you making “little commitments?”

2012 is mere days away. New Year‟s Day often illicits individual commitments to read the Bible; study the Bible; set a daily prayer time to commune with God alone; lose weight; watch TV less; and the list goes on and on. As this New Year‟s Day nears, the leadership of WOG urges you to consider making “little commitments” to our church and to one another. Seek God‟s will with regards to how you can increase your involvement at Grace Covenant.

-Meredith Loss “I really enjoyed the car rides and learning more about the women I fellowship with weekly. The conference was a great reminder that I need the gospel in my life daily. Jesus’ grace can transform all of my life, Grace 360.”

My happy recollections of that weekend would bring to my heart a number of precious memories: Godly women praising our heavenly Father in a huge facility where the sound of the many voices filled the place to His marvelous glory; Excellent teaching and heartfelt testimonies; Women, just like us, longing for more of Him; Laughs and lunches; the skyline of Atlanta; weasels in flour bags and unexpected turns into luxury neighborhoods. Gracious, warm and loving women of Grace Covenant Church of Hickory USA - Love you all. Never to be forgotten. Cobb Galleria Centre “Hall C” near Atlanta, GA to participate in the Amazing Grace 360 conference. This weekend exposed our delegation “to sound teaching and preaching of His eternal Word; opened their hearts in singing to Him; ministered His grace to one another along the way and provided the motivation to share the joys and substance of the conference with our congregation.” (www.amazinggrace360.com ) .

Susan Hurrie –

Tara Barthel was my favorite speaker and she has the whole retreat on her blog www.tarabarthel.com along with lots of pictures. Tara had several statements I liked. Two were: “Over the years supple has turned to saggy, but on the inside He’s making us new. Newness happens as we take in God‟s word day by day!” and “‟Shirt tuckers‟ – those that have it all together and „Miss Fit‟ – those who try hard but never seem to get it together.”

Barbara Steskal -

It was the most amazing time. I truly loved the conversations and getting to know ladies I did not know well. The teaching and the music at the retreat was phenomenal and I wish all the ladies of our church could have participated. It was a real blessing.
